Overcoming Loneliness this Christmas

February 29, 2008

Christmas is one of those times when the social norm is to get together with our families even if you never see them during the year. For those people who are isolated from their families, or do not have a family, it can be a time of great loneliness and even depression.

The day can remind us of what we do not have in our lives. Even if this does not bother us at any other time of the year, it can get to us at Christmas. The thought that everyone else is with their families can really weigh upon us.

There are many people who will be alone on Christmas day, so don’t think that you are the only one, or that you are in any way a failure if you find yourself without company at this time.

There are a number of things that you can do to make the day more pleasant for yourself.

1) Plan a special day for yourself

Plan to spoil yourself on Christmas Day. Plan a number of things that you really enjoy doing.

How to Reduce Your Stress this Christmas

February 29, 2008

In theory Christmas is a time that is filled with joy and celebration. A joyous holiday when you get together with loved ones and catch up, exchange gifts and generally have a good time.

Unfortunately in practice it can be a time of great stress and unhappiness. There is so much to do and so much to organise. And sometimes getting together with your extended family can be uncomfortable and even painful.

So here is a plan that will help you to relax a little more this Christmas and hopefully a good time will be had by all.

Christmas Shopping

Don’t leave everything until the last moment. Rushing will just make you tired and more stressed. Get you Christmas shopping done early, so you don’t have to spend hours fighting other shoppers for the last doll or Christmas turkey.

Don’t over spend. It is very easy at Christmas time to spend too much and put yourself in a financial hole for a good part of the new year. Decide before you go shopping how much you can afford to spend and stick to your budget. Shopping early will help you stick to a budget as you will not be in a last minute panic, picking up anything that may be suitable regardless of the cost.

We also provide ideas for dates that won’t break the bank - great especially for a first outing, yet perfect also for a change of pace in the old routine.

Restaurants

Also, stop by on Sunday evenings for the special dollar menu, featuring items such burgers and pasta. There is a minimum drink purchase of $3 required for the discount prices.

Dont Forget Grandmom - Shes an Earth Angel Too!

February 27, 2008

Have you ever thought what you would do without your Grandmom ? She’s the one that always stands beside us and gives us the cookies on the side? She fills in when Mom can’t. She’s the one that will spoil us rotten given half a chance. God thought enough of us to give us three earthly Guardian Angels if we are lucky enough when we are born all three are living. So many times, we forget Grandmom on Mother’s Day.

I am following my guidance in the writing of this article because Grandmom’s need to be exalted…not forgotten. Remember what I stated previously… God loves us enough that we are personally given this earthly Guardian Angel. Think about this for a moment… allow the monumental impact of that statement to sink in and all that encompasses. The one person that will always love you no matter what. As we get older we don’t think we need Grandmom quite as much as we did before and we generally take her for granted … She will always be here? She’s behind the times. Maybe sitting in a nursing home hoping someone will remember she is there. Will they come today? Will they call today? Do I matter anymore? Is it any wonder our elderly suffer from so much depression?

Mothers Day Love Letter ? The Best Way to Express Your Gratitude and Appreciation for Mom!

February 26, 2008

Abraham Lincoln said ? “All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother”

Wow! That is a worthy compliment to give mom this Mother’s Day!

Mothers are the source of our beginning and are always there for us, whether we realize it or not. Could that be one of the reasons why most of us take our mothers for granted?

We just expect her to be there. We pay little attention to the time of day, her schedule, her health or her state of mind when we need her. We just call on her and she shows up and gives us the warmth and comfort we’re desperately looking for. Fascinating, isn’t it?

Mothers are our first teachers and the biggest compliment a mother can get is when you tell her that she is the guiding light in your life and that you want to be like her.

We always think about sitting down with mom one day and telling her how much we appreciate her and how grateful we are for having her as our mother.

What is it that you’d like to tell mom this Mother’s Day?

Unique Gift Ideas — The Gift Of Fitness

February 24, 2008

Well, it’s almost that time of year again ? the holiday shopping season is just around the corner. Have you thought about what you are going to give those people on your "hard to shop for" list? Instead of another tie for your dad or music CD for your sister, why don’t you give them a truly unique and invaluable gift? I’m talking about the gift of fitness.

The gift of fitness is something that you can give to just about everybody on your shopping list, from your parents, to your spouse, a friend, your siblings, an employee or co-worker, even your children. And it’s a gift that is invaluable to everyone. After all who doesn’t want to look better, feel better, and be healthier?

And, it’s a gift that you can truly feel proud to give. When you give someone the gift of fitness, you are helping him open a door to better health (both physically and mentally). I can’t think of a more thoughtful gift that shows the recipient how much you care about their well-being. By giving the gift of fitness you are providing them with unlimited health benefits.

Fitness Tips On How To Avoid Gaining Weight During The Holiday Season

February 24, 2008

This holiday season don’t be trendy ? avoid the Seasonal Seven (the average weight most Americans gain between Thanksgiving and New Year’s). That’s one trend you don’t want to participate in!

I know what you are thinking ? the holidays are a time for fun and indulgence. You don’t want to think about fitness during that time. You want to enjoy yourself. Okay, before you accuse me of being the Grinch, you should know that I completely agree. The festivities don’t have to be eliminated or avoided, because you can have a fabulous time while also maintaining your weight and your fitness regimen.

The secret to achieving a holiday season that is both full of fun and also includes fitness is found in moderation. There are two typical approaches to the seasonal festivities: 1) throw all healthy habits out the window and indulge in every guilty pleasure 2) starve and binge approach (for example, you eat nothing all day long to allow yourself to overindulge in party food). Of course, neither approach is successful at maintaining a healthy, fit lifestyle throughout the holiday season.

Cheap Family Vacations

February 23, 2008

The real secret to cheap family vacations is to be opportunistic. When a friend offers you their cabin on the lake, say yes. Can you have as much fun at the cheaper, closer amusement park? Then that’s where you need to be. Do the kids like the idea of cooking dinner over a campfire? Drive right on by that reastaurant. Find out what everyone really enjoys. It’s sad to spend MORE on a trip for LESS enjoyment.

Examples Of Cheap Family Vacations

In Michigan, and many other places, you can find reasonable motels on the beach. Cheaper, and usually more scenic, are the numerous campgrounds on the beaches of Lakes Michigan, Superior, and Huron. You can find these in Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and in Ontario, Canada. Below are a couple beach-based vacation ideas.

Treasure Hunting Vacations

Two metal detectors will cost less than a few nights with the family in a hotel. Why not camp near a ghost town or beach, and spend your days hiking, exploring, and hunting buried treasure? We always find interesting things when we take our metal detector to the beach. The kids will love the adventure, and when they get bored with digging up quarters, they have swimming nearby.

Easter Party Ideas

February 22, 2008

Easter marks the start of spring and is a sacred holiday for Christians throughout the world as it signifies when Jesus Christ was resurrected from the grave to live again. But where did the Easter bunny and eggs fit into the Easter tradition?

The rabbit and eggs were actually symbols of fertility, immortality and new life to commemorate Christ’s resurrection. In Germany, colored eggs were left in children’s baskets and the custom was brought to America with German immigrants in the later 19th century.

Easter can be a fun time of year to celebrate the renewed growth of spring no-matter what religious beliefs you may have. Here are some idea’s to use for an Easter celebration party.

TABLE DECORATIONS

Turn a recycled white sheet into a spectacular Easter tablecloth by sponge painting bunnies, baskets and eggs in bright spring colors. Be sure to use textile paints so the tablecloth can be washed and used another year. Fabric paints are also available in squeeze applicators with glitter colors for decorating the sponged Easter eggs. Paint will need to dry at least 24 hours prior to use.
